More WACHS LYRICAL

I rate this producer very highly. All the pieces fit together and progress nicely as well as being smothered in catchy melodies. Kissy Sell Out played his Bloc Party remix on his show and N-Type has been cutting dubplates ever since this post. He's decided to give away one of his older tracks for free. Synthy number with a little wobble, Joker esque, although this was around before any of that came out. Go show him some love on his myspace, he has just finished his A Levels after all.

Jelly Hammer - Wachs Lyrical

One week til...

All this and more will run through two bone shaking sound systems housed in a huge, fully licensed East London warehouse space for the ultimate in underground parties. Get warmed up for Notting Hill Carnival 2009 with Urban Nerds!

For the third year running the Nerds return with an unforgettable August line-up, moving the party into bigger, better surroundings as they take over an enormous East London warehouse space. Shhh! It’s a secret! Ticket holders will be informed of the location via ticketweb, Facebook and the website before the event!

MJ Cole takes control of their tummy-rumbling sound system this year. Expect summertime anthems, deep minimal garage vibes and some of those good times old skool flavours from this old skool garage legend! Just remember... be Sincere! Having recently remixed Dan Black and with a stream of new dance-floor singles to come on his own Prolific label over the next 6 months, 2009 looks to be an exciting year for MJ Cole.

The Nerds are also proud to present two more legendary selectors in the form of DJ Zinc, retuning to the booth on a fresh tip with a string of bass led house and electro beat from the likes of Fake Blood, Jack Beats, Mad Decent and the Trouble & Bass Crew! Meanwhile Mampi Swift comes with the original junglist and drum & bass vibe, with the sound that helped pioneer bass music, as we know it today.

Representing the upfront sounds of the underground is Mumdance, with a unique electro and grime-fuelled assault! There’s more underground mayhem from the motor-mouthed and unmistakable Flirta D and Rinse FM’s DJ Vectra, plus, one of the biggest frontrunners in UK Funky and BBC 1XTRA selector, Footloose, who’s fresh from mixing Ministry of Sound’s 2009 smash compilation, ‘The Sound of UK Funky’ alongside DJs Pioneer and Supa-D!

It wouldn’t be a Carnival warm-up party without some tasty tropical vibes so Urban Nerds selectors Rattus Rattus & Klose One take to four decks with resident MC, Illaman, with an extra-special Carnival history set incorporating the biggest dancehall smashers, and Notting Hill favourites we’ve heard over the years! There’s also ragga, dub, reggae and a whole lot more from Rinse FM DJs, The Heatwave, described by The Metro as "London’s premier purveyors of dancehall".

Introducing TAAL MALA

Taal Mala is a Vancouver, BC based dubstep producer. He is a member of the infamous Lighta! Soundsystem of Vancouver, which has been running tings in western Canada as far as dubstep and any other dubwise bass music goes. Taal Mala has been a stalwart in the westcoast dubstep community since the beginning, with dubstep productions and DJ sets as far back as 2004, before Dubstep was being played by virtually every big name DJ on the west coast. Back then, Lighta! Sound from Vancouver B.C. was bringing relatively unknown artists to North America, such as the Bug, Loefah, and Kode 9, to play underground parties in crowded warehouses and basements to sweaty smiling people about to witness the birth of a new and influential sound. Dubstep has reshaped the face of west coast music and the world of electronic music at large, and Lighta! has been there from the beginning. Known for versatility and originality in both production and DJing, Taal Mala is one to watch out for in the coming future. Tunes made for a big system and not the faint hearted...

Hello (Taal Mala Remix) - AC Slater
Bass II Dark (Taal Mala Remix) - Asylum

Breath of fresh beats...

If you caught Afghan Headspin at either Glastonbury or Glade then you'll recognise this as what they opened their set with. If you didn't catch their set, weren't at either of those festivals or don't know who they are then you'll recognise this tune from the original which was a Drum n Bass anthem. Definitely been revived with a 140 beat...

Renegade Snares (Afghan Headspin Remix) - Omni Trio

Original from Rico Tubbs was huge, now with this dirty makeover, I'm sure 2 Bit Thugs' version will get people moving.

Gangsters (2 Bit Thugs Remix) - Rico Tubbs

Huge tune from Twitchdubz here. Heavy wobblin' Dubstep, big system needed for full effect I'm sure. Sorry for the brief posts but not that much free time at the moment innit.

Doomsday 2029 - Twitchdubz

Florence & The Boy

The third single to be taken from Florence & The Machine's stellar debut album 'Lungs' is the highly charged ‘Drumming Song’, out September 7th on Island Records. A song fuelled by unadulterated passion, desire and fear of the unknown when it comes to falling in (and out) of love.

Wasn't expecting this track to be available to share but here we have Boy 8-Bit's huge room version. As usual everything done tip top.

Drumming Song (Boy 8-Bit Remix) - Florence & The Machine [RUDEEE]

Couple of producers from London, GreenMoney, bringing something fresh to our ears combined with top notch production. I refuse to call this genre of music "Funky", saying that I wish I hadn't given into the "Fidget" ballshit! New header and tags needed, oh well, enjoy...

Purdy (GreenMoney Dub) - William Orbit

Jack Beats wobble getting boring? Yeh I reckon...

I'm Not Your Toy (Jack Beats Remix) - La Roux

Look out for Jack Beats remix of Florence, that one's better.

You like this...?

...sometimes it's too stinky but other than that I do.

Suspicious Stench is made up of two widely respected artists in the scene, for those that don't know, they are Stenchman and Suspect. Both have large numbers of releases on various labels and I believe even have a couple/few labels between them.

The exciting news is that they have just put together a compilation album of their tunes which is available to download for free. If you asked me in conversation, I'd probably say that I'm not a massive fan of this kind of Dubstep but as with most genres/sub genres of music it's just because I don't really own much of it and don't really follow what's released etc. Having just listened to Suspect's myspace, there are definitely a few tunes on there which I need to get my mittens on. Back to the point, I know that many people are already big fans and so as not offend anyone, you can get the full album here. I've selected my favourite five, both producers, when on their own or together show their versatility of production skills across the album so here's two chilled and two filthy tracks and well... this skit which I dig lots.

Skit - Suspicious Stench [RUDEEE]

Tranquility - Suspect
Play Games - Stenchman

V.I.P - Suspect
Gutfucker - Stenchman

Anyone who wants to suggest their favourite releases/forthcoming from these two, or similar artists, feel free. I hope you've all got a heavy weekend planned, peees.

Thursday

MONSTER!

There haven't been many tracks recently but don't worry cos I've been filtering through what's available at the moment. These tracks are mostly on the heavier Dubstep tip.

The picture is along the lines (it's missing a smashed phonebox and a couple of drunk Scots, and ignore the minor flaw that Glasgow is inland) of the image I get when I listen to this first track by the up-and-coming Osky. It's short but filthy enough to leave you not really knowing what just happened! The second is along the lines of a Jakes track, wibbly wobbly...

One Night In Glasgow - Osky
Duck and Cover - Osky

I came across these guys, Orbatak, because they've got a new twist on Machete. All those who know Hazard's version, you need to check this. They've also got a track available for download which is hefty when it drops.

Machete - Orbatak [RUDEEE]
Load n Load - Orbatak

The next from Raven who's attracting attention at the moment. Stagga's been getting a rinsing and now we have a garagey old skool flavoured track which drops with a nice bassline 2/3 the way through. Also check the myspace for a gritty DJ Luck remix.

I Come From - Raven

Another artist who was in that silly play on track names, CaoS on an underground dub reggae vibe, nice deep subby bass.

Them Get Hz - CaoS

Next, picked this up from Rub A Dub Dub and was really impressed with Blackheart's mixdown on this track, really makes a difference to the whole feel. Obviously this isn't the only good thing about the track, definitely needs a listen.

Mission - Blackheart

Part of Ganja White Knight who are a live Dubstep band producing some huge tunes, LeBelgeElectrod has excelled himself on this track. Some glitchy screeching whirring synths, deep wobbly cuts accompanied with some strange vocals. DatsiK?!

The Anger Of The Bonobo - LeBelgeElectrod

Really digging the synths in this one. Check it...

1987 - Sully

These two last ones, less heavy and not the best from either of the remixers but some of you may dig. Old news for the fans though...

Salt Air (Plastician Remix) - Chew Lips
Watch The Sun Come Up (Joker & Ginz Remix) - Example

It's time to present...

It's finally here and I hope you're as excited as I am. The third in our mix series, the previous two getting much love and many many downloads. After lots of requests for a volume two and a slight lack in ideas of a better name, we decided this was only thing to do so we set out weaving a fine selection of tunes into another story of bass and beats. A slightly longer version but we've tried to keep off the heaviness for ease of listening. Share it, put it on a cd for a friend, put it on your iPod, get ready for a night out with, but mostly importantly... I hope you enjoy it. Submissions for Vol. 3 and feedback welcome...

Introducing JEUCE

These boys from Leeds/Herts, who go under the name of Jeuce are about to cause a stir with their forthcoming releases. They've already had support from Andy George & Jaymo on one of their original tracks and I'm sure there'll be more radio play in the near future. They fuse electro/disco/dubstep together to create a bouncy hybrid sound. Those who are A1 Bassline fans, I'm sure you'll dig these reworks.

Hurricane Rework - Synth Girl [forthcoming Gash Digital]
Bass Comes In Rework - Jacob Plant [forthcoming CR2 Records]

This one is more on the electro tip but definitely bumps along nicely with some big euphoricy breaks, some of you may have picked this up from here a while ago.

Tomorrow Rework - Ladytron [Netwerk]

There's a live set so if you see a local event I'm sure it'd be an entertaining show. Check the myspace for the dates and a few more tunes.

The second Dubscover is creeping up on us, where have the last 2 months gone! Anyway, Hylu and the rest of the team have been busy interviewing and organising in the run up to what is set to be a huge night. New KID SIMPLE

We've been watching this kid who goes by the name of Kid Simple over the last 6 months with a beady eye. I've had my suspicions but they've now been confirmed as he's come out with this pretty massive remix. Gentle build ups lead you to a soaring yet chilled drop with floating vocals and a nice warm bassline. The Joker esque, but not so prominent, trebley sounds give the track a real summery vibe (kinda like glistening water no?!). You're onto a winner with this one and if you want more, you'll have to go searching but there's other tracks dotted around the blog. The introduction post is here.

Baby Doll (Kid Simple Remix) - Cat Power

Only two today, those long posts I've noticed put you off with the downloads and that's not a good thing. I get carried away sometimes with all the tracks I'm allowed to chuck at you. This one from Octa Push is packed full of bouncy energy and carnival (I want to say brazilian but I'm not sure) vocal snippets accompanied with a nice portion of bass.

Kolokani - Octa Push

Sunday

You've got a secret smile...

The last time you lot heard anything from Jayou around these parts was back in this post. That was ages ago so I decided it was time for a little update. Lots has happened in the last couple of months. He's moved house, been without the internet for a month, had Crack Hands dropped in Dave Taylor's half of the Major Lazer essential mix, been in contact with Diplo about getting Mad Decent exposure, started a sweet new collaboration (I can't tell you who), and finally, made some new tunes...

Blue Magic [RUDEEE]
Secret Smile Remix
Friendly Fire
Crack Hands (Genetic Krew Remix)

As always, go show him some love and tell him where you got his tunes.
